maybe there's some retard out there that spent 100k on pokemon before the boom and his net worth is 700k now but that's only if he sells and if he does sell it's going to look really suspicious that he suddenly has 700k on his bank account so he will have to pay taxes on it
I don't know how taxes work in the US but here's a quick google:
if collectibles are sold at a gain, you will be subject to a long-term capital gains tax rate of 28%
so your have 600k profit gets turned into 432k profit + the initial 100k = 532k
also most starting pokemon investors probably don't have a succesfull ebay store + ebay and paypal both take cuts too
