This. As great as the monhun devs are, their marketing dept is fucking terrible which is why their games never do as well as they should. If gamefreak developed this game, they would at least have the common sense to use the mascot that would generate the most porn because its free marketing. Actual competition in an era where older fans have grown tired of complacency and on a console with a large enough install base that anything that doesn't look like immediate trash is a guaranteed million seller.
AKA the perfect storm to finally give Game Freak some legitimate competition. Hopefully seeing what other companies can do entices them to actually invest some decent money into whatever comes next after Legends Arceus.

What's sad is that the giant Rock monster encounter in that comparison is what I actually assumed Dynamax to be. I thought GF wanted an open world to showcase some giant Pokemon which grew to abnormal sizes in the wild like they sometimes did in the ashime.

At this point there's just no excuse. I don't even care if MHS 2 has less monsters if the experience is overall superior.

Even in the older games, people would have been happy with just more of the same, a game with enough content to go from level 1-100 instead of stopping after the first half. They go for highest reward for the least amount of effort necessary. Yes, if they would put in 20% more work, they would get 15% more sales, but it's already not worth it anymore since brand recognition made sure most sales are already in.

Not really. There's not really a competition since nothing even remotely successful with similar concept aims for the same audience. Also, so many blind consumers praise and buy literally everything pokemon related it's not even worth trying for them.
