I remember buying a Base 1st ed Pikachu (yellow cheeks unfortunately) for like 10 canadian funbucks at that time. Or a 1st ed Fossil Dragonite for about $15. I had an actual card store near me with some kind of unimaginably outdated spreadsheets, and I must have bought a couple dozen Base 1st ed commons/uncommons (including Charmander and Bulbasaur) for a fraction of their market value.
Felt good. Now the normie rush on cards has made the actual collecting a lot less exciting, even if it's also responsible for massively inflating the value of my collection.
