Easily the most well rounded Pokemon games, and most problems with it do come down to opinion rather than technical issues (I could say similar things about Gen 3). The main problem is that it doesn't really excel anywhere aside from B2W2 really overachieving when it comes to "third versions", and even then it's arguable that others excel in specific areas more. Base BW has exploration roughly on par with Kanto and postgame roughly on par with Sinnoh, a relatively smooth playthrough give or take a few bad parts (before the first gym Pokemon selection is miserable and cutscenes are so numerous that they had to give one of the characters a faster text speed). It doesn't really innovate when it comes to battles, but I feel like Gen 4 got it mostly right in the first place. It runs pretty well with no major glitches, the only real problem is that it's 30fps. I'd say BW is easily the best first version, and Gen 5 sits with HGSS as some of my favorite Pokemon games, but in the end BW will always be a very divisive game, and that's perfectly fine.
Also, I don't want it to get a remake. It's not perfect, but I know they won't fix any of the actual problems and will just add new even worse issues to the game.
