The Black and White duology is really good. But the story isn't as good as DPPt's story, which, while simpler, is much more emotionally engaging. The region isn't as comfortable as Johto either, but it does have Johto's narrative squarely beat. The new monsters aren't as good as the Hoenn region's new additions either. But it has Hoenn beat in pretty much every other capacity, except maybe region design. Kalos introduced a smaller amount of Pokemon but their designs were all more palatable than most of Unova's new monsters. Kalos also has better quality of life mechanics.

Everything people praise Sun and Moon for is something that Black and White did first, and did better by giving you some breathing room to experience your own journey. I've never seen praise for Regional Formes, only vitriol and accusations of laziness. Personally, I like them, but they don't elevate Sun and Moon over any Black and White Game. Which leaves Sword and Shield, which has a lot of neat QOL features but is overall an underwhelming, unpolished embarrassment with a UI that looks like programmer art, a nonsensical plot even by the incredibly low standards set by Ruby and Sapphire, and an ugly overworld. Still, it introduced a ton of cool new monsters and, dare I say it, cute girls too.

tl;dr most Pokemon games are good except for Ruby and Sapphire, and Sword and Shield, which are terrible.
