Does this change based on ladder? I made it up to 1800ish once on randoms and still felt like a dogshit player. Pokémon at higher tiers is hard. Everyone's like 10 steps ahead with their 2000000 IQ plays.

Pretty much, ladders with larger playerbases tend to have higher elo requirements in order to break top 500.
Rank 500 on AG is 1542 elo while number 500 on the Random ladder is 2061 elo for example.

I have like 15-20 throw away accounts that have reached 1600. It is not that hard once you become decent at team building. In AGs case, not only do you have to get ready for the current meta, you also gotta have tools available that deal with most gimmicks.
