>>47589309Im actually upset it died down even if it was a foregone conclusion. I feel like we'd have better games now if it didn't. But I am sort of happy it died down for some of the experience.
GO on release was fascinating. Everyone always wanted to go out and explore and live that pokemon journey lifestyle and GO brought a taste of that to the real world. SO much fun seeing everyone everywhere and going out with your friends to catch pokemon in the real world. But the game itself was incredibly shallow. And just like any other phone game, you install it, have fun with it for 2 weeks to 2 months, then exhaust what little it really had to offer then uninstall.
GO brought that renewed interest back though, and LGPE along with Sw&Sh capitalized on that hype along with being "THE FIRST POKEMON GAMES ON AN ACTUAL CONSOLE!". It squandered any chance to really expand and improve. IT rode purely off Nostalgia and all those old fans that got renewed interest from GO and barely touched pokemon for years took the bait.
Now dont get me wrong. To someone who hadn't picked up a pokemon game in 10, 15, or 20 years. It scratched that fuckin itch for those people. They're still very solid games by your casual video gamers metric; now just add nostalgia bonus with a unique world and gameplay that other games dont offer, and those people were immensely satisfied. But to the fans that have been following for years its a huge let down. SO much squandered potential. They have infinite money. They could do so much better just alone on graphics let alone everything else. Casuals dont see it but fans that have been following know how bare bones, same-old-same-old, repackaged games these are with a new gimmick slapped on it.
Pokemon is supposed to be a AAA game franchise, that has the potential to be AAAA, but they still make games as if they're A or AA style development team. They ride of nostalgia, and a unique premise.
