Meanwhile, Gen 7 was the one that completely stripped the formula of the National Dex, player-based progression and agency, and narrative focus. It speaks nothing to Gen 6's actual quality, but the barrier between Gen 6 to 7 is too great to lump them together, especially when Gen 8 ended up being a straight offshoot of what Gen 7 went for.
