It has good coverage, but poor stats to use it with. 90 SpA plus Protean can let it hit relatively hard, and 60/100/120 defenses can let you take quite a few hits when paired with Protean's ability to swap resistances around.

The type changes before it gets hit but only once per turn, so you could take it down doubles, but it would be stronger in singles. You'd have to rely on your coverage or do some sort of future sight or stealth rock combo. Give it a move that does damage for whatever type it currently is. Also give it an Evo thas a bulky heavy hitter

Stats become 60/90/90/90/90/60. Now color change boosts 2 of kecleon's stats by 1 stage depending on what type it becomes (they say real life chameleons change color based on mood):
>normal, fighting, ground, rock, ghost, bug, flying, poison, steel = Atk and Def boost
>fire, water, grass, ice, electric, psychic, dragon, dark, fairy = SpA and SpD boost
Stat boosts stack; if kecleon is turned into a rock type and then a fighting type, it'll have +2 on Atk and Def; if it's turned into a bug type then an ice type, it'll have +1 on Atk, Def, SpA and SpD. The normal type kecleon has by default does not trigger color change, but if it becomes normal as a result of the ability, it will gain the boost.

its biggest issue is stats, even with a huge color change buff like changing type before the opponent's attack lands it's just way too squishy, slow, and not quite strong enough

To be honest, put it an assault best, protean and priority moves. It's really fun to use against special attackers, its SpDef is amazing.

Keckleon now gets extreme speed, belly drum, flare blitz, power whip, close combat, outrage, iron head, power up punch, acrobatics, sandstorm, hail, dragon dance and swords dance
Yes all the moves are crazy but Kecleon's special movepool is already insane so it's nothing new

It's actually pretty solid. Put on an Assault Vest, and four moves: Fighting+Ghost has an incredible offensive synergy. Whatever resists ghost will be hit super effectively by fighting.

Moves: Power-Up Punch for +1s, Drain Punch for Recovery, Shadow Sneak for Priority, and last a filler move against certain threats.
