It really depends. The problem is, people are buying up tons of packs and boxes and constantly pulling cards and not actually playing with them or handing them around like old cards. For anyone who was a kid in the late 90s, we didn't buy Pokemon cards and send them off to be graded we played with them and at best stored them in a binder or case. Only a very small amount of people collected and stored cards compared to today. Vintage cards in general are way lower in population count, especially mint+ stuff so you have a lot less to choose from. On the other hand, every once in a while some very limited/rare modern stuff comes around that will remain low pop forever which are still very good considerations for a long term hold.

So, it's not really a question of Modern vs Vintage. It's more just 'is it very rare or limited' and does the market actually want it? That's usually what gives any card it's value (rare + demand + low supply).

spent 600 on this gigantic collection and upon getting it, no regrets

the fucker sent it via UPS ground, and the box was damaged to shit so I crapped my pants at the sight of it but luckily nothing happened. Even came with one of those vintage binders in very good condition.
