Maybe they're more like a supercomputer and can process a lot of information really quickly, but are lacking in other areas where humans excel. Looking at its Pokedex entries, it looks like, other than the Rick and Morty Fan Level IQ, they mostly talk about performing lots of calculations and being able to remember a huge amount of information. This tracks with Alakazam being favorably compared to a supercomputer, which I think is the case with Metagross as well.
Also one of them mentions that he gives one of his spoons to people he really trusts and I found that very cute
