That’s interesting. You’d assume that wolves would never have been domesticated in the Pokemon world, but they were, since dogs are some of the animals that we have seen. I wonder if some in the Pokemon world do prefer animal companions. Maybe the magical abilities of Pokemon scare them, or maybe they’re unstable people prohibited from owning Pokemon for the sake of public safety.

To be fair, back in caveman times, humans didn't try to tame shit like mammoths or sabertooth tigers. We picked something decently strong but mostly on par with us, like wolves. Pokemon are way outside our power level, for the most part. And the ones that aren't are shitters like Sunkern and Magikarp.

The best I can say on animals is that t use what the animu said. I say this since that lore book that did say all the stuff above you said did influence the anime and its writing, that ironically the original season imo followed the original lore closely. Anyway when asked about animals and the references to them the writer said animals did exist but are now currently extinct in the Pokémon world.

My headcannon was that being a normal animal, would make you a normal type. Normal animals are still pokemon. As for powers, they would have them. Even the humans in pokemon have anime powers and strength. Humans would be normal types, with some possible type specialities (fighting, dark and psychic) with training. A HM is just a training video. So humans could learn abilities within their "moveset", with training the same way pokemon can.

It was already shown in like the first season of the anime that pokemon can be food.

I imagine they just eat miltank/tauros as beef, any one of the fish pokemon as fish, any of the normal flying types as chicken
