>>47621369People always bring up Meganium, Inteleon, or Cinderace for least popular starter, but those Pokemon feel like they have a significant group of fans backing them as well. Meganium even if not a big favorite was still a 1-of-3 choice in one of the most loved and best selling games GF did, and the amount of fanart shit like Cinderace and Inteleon have gotten in just two years’ time (probably more than Emboar has already from a decade) shows they have a dedicated, if often degenerate following.
Emboar, in my opinion, has the unique combination of not only being ugly to some but also just kind of forgettable. This is hard to describe because it’s my favorite Unova starter, but there’s no satisfying twist to the design, I guess? It really looks like it could be a legend of zelda enemy with a tweak to the eyes, there’s nothing very Pokemon about it aside from the unnecessary belly pattern just to let you know we’re in gen 4/5. This earns it the title of least popular because in my opinion having a good chunk of people that like something and a good chunk of people who hate it still makes you more popular than something that very few people seem to ever even talk about or like.
