10 years after BW2, Castelia City has sprawled to cover basically the entire region. Replace traditional nature exploration with urban exploration.

I have a lot of critiques about the state of the franchise, but design quality is not one of them. Gen 8 introduced some of my favorite Pokemon ever, and I think they still have it in them to design a good original dragon.

why would you make a trilogy? BW2 pretty much changed all it could; it addressed the region design how it could, added in a fantastic amount of post-game, and some other gameplay improvements. it's pretty much as complete as it can be now.

I'd say this is an interesting concept, but I'd also like the main antagonist to treat their human allies like your average trainer treats some of their Pokemon, including an HM slave whose only use in battle is as a way to get your better team members healed up, but still technically provides a valuable function in both roles.

To answer your question, I wouldn't want Game Freak to do it as long as they're also releasing a game every goddamn year. I'd expect it to be less of a complete fuckup than a Unova remake that doesn't fix any of the actual problems and just makes everything worse, but I do expect it to be one of those really underwhelming sequels that come out years after the original, I'm sure you can think of an example. As long as they have Bianca as the Professor (if it's far enough on the timeline at least) I'm sure somebody on the team cared about making a sequel, but it's hard for me to want it.

Seeing as Unova is the American region, let's go full Manifest Destiny and have the plot be about expanding into outer landmasses that were once considered uninhabitable due to residual energy from Kalos' war cannon. Tying back to the themes of the first two games, it could focus on the spread of idealism and dogma in virgin lands and how cults of personality can easily grow in such situations.

Doesn't even need to be that, although given this is the Pokemon world, the brains might actually have psychic powers and the brawn might be able to suplex at least some Fighting types. I'm talking somebody more just good with dealing with obstacles, whatever they are. Or digging holes and building ridiculous contraptions, if we want to go full anime Team Rocket, which I would not be opposed to.
