Gens one and two were pokemonia and the golden age. RS was this weird foreign land with shitty monsters no one liked and no link to the past. Frlg was polished but had a shocking lack of soul. DPPt
was a bloated and rehashed soulless drift . gen 5 wanted so bad to be a reboot but it fell flat on its face. It sucked, most of the new mons were bad and you coukd only use them, the ugly battles with pixelated tweening and awkward dances and moves that look painful and unnatural, the oversaturated dark colors of the region and the awful middle school story. Bw felt like a shitty fangame. Bw2 tried to apologize for their mistake and cram new pokemon and new content as fast as they could. But the damage was done. No one cared, pokemon was a bloated corpse that had makeup and perfume smeared on in a futile attempt to pass it off as still alive.
Then 3d was a new era. Good or bad. The models mostly looked great, the region was large and beautiful with varied ecosystems and plentiful mons to catch old and new. Seen for the first time in glorious 3d. It had flaws. It catered to kanto fans a bit much. It felt unfinished and they spent so much time making it look nice they forgot to make the characters interesting or to balance the use of new megas or the xp. Share. deserved a third version more than any. Then gen 7 came along. It looked nice, It had lots of good characters, Most had interesting personalities (not Hop) There was plenty of challenge to be had with ev trained trainers and ball busting totem fights. It had a lot going for it, but it got heavily bogged down in inane and constant repetitive and long cutscenes. If you trim out all that the game is only like 4-6 hours long. Thats how much talking the characters do. Then gen 8 was...
I havent played it yet, but the lack of all pokemon programmed in, the laziness of the graphics and dumbing down story turn me off. It could always get worse.
