When LeGoPiss came out, I decided that, since it didn't have all of my top three, it didn't count as mainline and I shouldn't spend time or money on it. Since then there hasn't been a single Pokemon game to clear that low bar, including spinoffs and GO, and BDSM isn't looking like it'll break that streak.

This image doesn't really show the fact that, while people were still buying the game, criticism of the games we enjoyed grew more and more across the generations. People seldom play Pokémon for the plot, but once you take away the other reasons to enjoy Pokémon, you can bet we'll start having standards regarding the story and design.
