you're randomly assigned two starter mons each playthrough instead of wands. between levels you can switch pokémon attacks. pokémon work like how eggs work in the game (meaning they're useless)

It actually sounds really fun, potentially even a good mod idea. Have Pokemon act like summons and change the NPCs in the game into trainers, vendors, and nurses. The gyms could be the different bosses and different weapons could act as either attacks for your Pokemon or the Poke Balls

Wild pokemon all have overworld sprites and attack the moment they sense your presence. You employ a starter pokemon and control in real time to defeat wild pokemon and then capture them.
Legendaries, Gyms and Elite Four are boss battles. It is okay to have excess boss battles because this is a Dark Souls 2 spin-off after all.

>pokemon are now found both in the overworld and in special dens, where shiny rates are increased and special forms are more likely (eg megas, dynamaxes)
>pokemon can either be caught in battle or directly raised by stealing eggs from the special dens mentioned above

>the story is significantly more obnoxious and you have a weird meowth companion that never shuts the fuck up about the plot or how great you and Pika are together, the "power of friendship" shit never ends

It’s mostly the same gameplay but the item names are changed to be pokemon items, and you can find pokeballs people left behind that are one-use and release a random pokemon which fights zombies in an area then disappears

I feel like a PMD-esque world would be the best. It would draw largely from EO mechanics-wise but feature stuff like type matchups. Might have to have a more limited selection of playable Pokémon so they give them proper skill trees and whatnot.
Unfortunately, the difficulty would likely take a big hit.

That would be my ideal game desu but I don't know if that could work as a blobber without turning all the characters into Pokémon.
At least it would have a class system for trainers and the monsters desingns would improve a lot because Etrian's monsters suck.

Okemos battle Royale, you'd find TMs instead of guns and attachments. Each pokemon would get one small move and one big move that they could use on cooldown. Honestly it sounds sick, would probably feel like Spellbreak.
