USUM is without a doubt the most soulful game. Has tons of moments like these that are just always a joy to play through.

It honestly never gets old, I know a lot of people meme on Gen 7 for not being replayable but I could honestly keep playing USUM and Swoosh for the rest of my life.

It's moments like these that really make replaying Gen 7 so enjoyable. There's so much to experience and you can tell they really poured every ounce of soul they had into these games to make them as good as they could be. Maybe it was just to compensate for the lack of it in Unova, but god did it work.

I don't really cared for the story in the previous games, and the general consensus was that everything else got improved at the expense of the story, I had a great time with UM but did I really miss out on SM? The story really makes the game that much better?

The story changes were overall minor and the game added a fair amount of stuff to more than make up for it

The real knock against USUM is that they were the most similar to their base games, like if you already bought SM you were just straight up missing out a fair amount of things (access to legendaries, different QR mons, a few improvements, more post game battles, the works) but the actual structure of the game was not only basically the same but it hit many of the same notes too

My 3DS is no longer in great condition and I liked a few decent parts of it (why the fuck did they drop the fucking Hot Springs, I could hatch 18 eggs at once, fuck)

It looking like it does in Citra and not being overly ambitious means that it'd be unlikely to look bad with a few touches here and there

Just make the QR Pokemon rare spawns in the days of the week they showed up in and remove or streamline the Festival Plaza and we're set

I'd play it more than gen 8 at least

Yes. There's nothing enjoyable about Gen 6 and in many ways it ended up being even worse than Gen 5. Gen 7 is leagues above it in just about every manner.
If you don't like cutscenes, try USUM. It pumps a bunch of soul and much-needed QOL that wasn't in SM and actually ends up being one of the best games in the series next to Swoosh with the DLC.

Absolutely. I was too harsh on Gen 7 at first because I didn't realize that the Island Scan and Festival Plaza ended up being even better versions of the DexNav and PSS from Gen 5 and 6.
The story and characters are great. The difficulty is some of the hardest in the series, and the game just oozes soul and is filled to the brim with content and optional areas. Give it a shot.

Gen VII is worth it for the QOL alone. The movement is a big upgrade from the godawful roller skates from BW2 and XY. I seriously can't think of anything that Gen VI did better than SM and especially not USUM.

The cutscenes honestly aren't anywhere near as bad as Unova and especially not Kalos. Those games are notorious for being slow and wasting your time with pointless interruptions but back in the day people praised SM for cutting a lot of the bloat and even when you do get interrupted in Alola, at least it's actually interesting since the characters are well-designed and written.

I honestly can't recommend USUM enough. Best Buy had it on sale a while back so you should really try and snipe another deal of it if you can.
SM is still good, probably like B-Tier if we were to rank it, but USUM ended up being the best game in the series. If you were hesitant about trying out Alola I'd recommend trying USUM first and maybe buying Moon with your Sun copy to fill in the gaps afterwards if you get invested. All in all, if you could handle the cutscenes in Gen 5 then Gen 7 shouldn't be any problem. I shouldn't need to explain why you will eventually rank Gen 6 at the bottom.

I'd say try it. SM aren't quite as good as USUM but they still have a metric fuckton of soulful moments and things to do. Maybe it's just nostalgia after living through the doughts in Gen 5 and 6 but I honestly never had a better time here than during SM release. The Festival Plaza was the most active the board had ever been on online and it seems to still be active today, even moreso than Gen 6 or 8, ironically.

Kalosperm love to deflect and shove the blame on Unovabortions but in actuality they just can't stand that their game is effectively the worst next to BW2. SM is good but it leaves some plot holes that don't really get solved until USUM. Like what happened to Mohn and why Lusamine never tries to look for him after the story.
