Could be anything, something you always do, Pokemon you always catch, rules you always abide by, that kinda thing. Unless I missed it again, I haven't seen a thread like this in the catalog today. For me:>Trainer ID must end in 5 or 0, and I will reset for this >no items in battle, set mode, animations on unless I'm grinding >in regular versions of the games, each Pokemon on my team must be one that was introduced in that generation or region; regional variants count >in ROM hacks, at least half of the team must consist of Pokemon like that, but the other half is fair game for older Pokemon >in regular versions of the games, half the team must be Fire, Water, and Grass, starter can be included but not always >in ROM hack playthroughs, only two of the three must be included >there must be an even mix of physical and special attackers >the entire team must not have a predominant weakness to any certain type; team builder sites can show type weaknesses to help plan this >the team should try to avoid type overlap if possible, mostly for the above reason, but exceptions can be made >the full team must be assembled as soon as possible, but we can get by with a few strong members and then Pokemon that tag along for a Gym or two >usually formed before the seventh Gym at least though >during the mid game, catch Pokemon with at least decent IVs (around 15 to their important stats), natures are flexible as long as they're not detrimental, neutral natures are often great >in ROM hack playthroughs, each Pokemon must be EV trained to give me a better fighting chance >catch Pokemon in Luxury Balls if possible >never use any Legendaries, even if opponents in ROM hacks are using them too >in games with HMs, try to incorporate them into the movesets to prevent the need for HM slaves, even if it means having to double up on Surf and Waterfall with my Water type I think that's all I can think of for now.

>>47639308 >Trainer ID must end in 5 or 0, and I will reset for this Pretty autistic, not gonna lie.
>never use any Legendaries, even if opponents in ROM hacks are using them too The opposite of you. In my head, if you don't use at least one legendary, that means you lack the mental fortitude to control it, which means you are a weak trainer.

For me, it's
>For the playthrough team, it has to be all Pokemon that are introduced in that game, even if one type overlaps with the others. For example, in Black 2: Emboar, Lucario, Unfezant/Ampharos, Azumarill/Golduck, Arcanine and Jellicent.
>I try to make my Pokemon at least 5 levels lower than the 4th and up Gym Leaders' Pokemon so it's challenging. >Regular Pokemon are caught in Poke Balls, special pokemon and Legendaries in Premier Balls. Exceptions if the Pokemon matches nicely with the ball, like Tyranitar with Dusk Balls or Ho-Oh with Cherish Balls.
>Play as boy in the "red" version, girl in the "blue" >Default names all around. >No nicknames Anonymous

>>47639308 When I was a kid and until recently I used to avoid using pokemon that wee too strong, as in, the ones that had very good stats and moves by default, because I felt like I was cheating otherwise. I'm including legendaries and pokemon/eggs that are given by NPCs or that you have to encounter for plot related reasons here obviously. Most of the time I was too attached to the first shitmons I caught in each playthrough to replace them anyway so I remember gen 1 and 2 being way harder than they actually are because of this. I do this in other games sometimes, like how I try not to be too OP in Fire Emblem games or they become boring and too easy.
I used to give HMs to my regular pokemon, I didn't like the idea of having an HM slave because that was a waste of a slot.
I used to take my time to talk to all the NPCs and catch anything and do some level grinding, and I left some of the side quests for later before to make each run last "longer" but now that I'm an adult with a job and less free time I don't anymore. I'm playing Shield with the DLC pass right now and doing all the side content on top of completing the pokedex and it's way more fun like this. I'm thinking about playing all the games again this way.

Unfortunately I'm too lazy to raise 2 actually competent pokemon so I end up with a slightly overleveled team of 4

>>47639308 Use the character's names from the English promos (Gloria, Victor) or their names from the manga (Gold, Schilly). The only exceptions are names I don't really like (Hilbert). And in LGPE I changed the MC and rivals names since I didn't like the fact that they rhymed.
Try to have a balanced team.
Catch a Magikarp to evolve it into Gyarados.
Do at least one playthrough with nothing but the current game's new Pokemon.

>>47639308 I don't catch pokemon, I fight with my starter against every trainer and use gift pokemon as HM slaves. Only exception is Yellow because the starter is useless.
I mean, what am I supposed to do? Not clear the game in the most efficient way possible?

Team must have:>4 dual-typed and 2 single-typed mons >1 single-evo, 2 two-evo and 3 three-evo mons >no type repetition (only base permanent forms count here, for example using both Mega-Altaria and Clefable is acceptable, but Rotom-Wash and Swampert isn't) Weaknesses/Resistances are subjective because there glass cannon mons that can't take hits at all, Instead I just try to have counters to common "threatening" mons Also:>number of mons on each stage of the game must match the rival's >no items in battle if npcs don't use them as well >if npcs do use items, I'm allowed to use 4 of them on the active mon (so no healing inactive pokemon and no reviving) >if I can't change natures/evs in-game, I treat my mons as if they're supposed to have 0 IVs and -10% in each stat

I don't do this in gens 1 or 2, but any games after I try to guide what types of EVs my mons get. I don't specifically EV train/grind but I will let a physical attacker die against say like a Roserade and switch in my special attacker to absorb the EVs instead. I go to the point of even using mons with bad matchups or no supereffective moves on the target just so I can absorb the appropriate EVs. I look up which EVs pokemon yield before k.o.ing if I don't know. Obviously it doesn't have to be perfect and a small handful of inappropriate evs get through but the thought of having like a weavile with hundreds of special attack EVs from killing psychic types or any mon with just random EVs bothers me. That's why I usually stick to mixed attackers as much as possible so I don't have to be as strict. It honestly makes me enjoy the games less because i get so fixated on it. I know it doesn't really even matter all that much but my OCD/autism will not let me not do this.
>>47639308 >Trainer ID must end in 5 or 0, and I will reset for this I don't reset for specific numbers but I prefer if it has some 7s or just has an interesting number sequence. I only reset if my ID has 13 or just ugly numbers in it. Last time I played oras I got 16667. I reset immediately so my game wasn't cursed. (Not joking)
>no items in battle, set mode Everytime. Should be standard.
>during the mid game, catch Pokemon with at least decent IVs (around 15 to their important stats), natures are flexible as long as they're not detrimental, neutral natures are often great Holy shit are you me? I do this almost exactly. I love neutral natures and I usually try to get IVs at least in double digits.

Like maybe we get extra 10% experience points if we play as male, and extra 10% affection and friendship if we play as the female.
