It is a known subject by now that more and more people are becoming hikkigamori (shut ins) in Japan. The decline in Japanese people having less social contact and therefore having less kids will soon reflect on franchises like Pokémon, Yokai-Watch and etc. How will they deal with it? Will they pander to the otaku public? Or will they pander to the west?

What exactly do you envision pandering to otakus/the west specifically would even look like? Personally if any pandering is their future I think it’s just milking the current nostalgic fanbase for more and more with things like two games within a three month span coming up

I mean Pokemon Journeys already had an episode where the female assistant had some outside pressure (from her mother and Koharu) to be in a relationship but she was just interested in Pokemon and being a career woman, and the entire Sobble evolving into Drizzile was basically about hikkikomori, and how Go is a parent that's trying his best to deal with the circumstances, trying to be supportive.
