Alright, give me your best in-universe explanation for friendship evolution's. Is it some hormone release that only happens in captivity? Is there some "human energy" radiation? They can already be psychic or turn into pokemon... what is it?

Through the love/bond of others a Pokemon can magically evolve, it doesn't require a trainer as it can happen from a Pokemon's bond increasing with another Pokemon as well. This is shown by Pichu evolving into Pikachu in the anime.
