For whatever reason in English they're referred to as "lion dogs", and Shīzi/Shihtzu the as in the dog breed means "lion" in Chinese, and stone lions are 石獅/Shíshī or "stone lion". Suicune however is a combination of animal features, so a lot of people say it's based on a qilin.
