The simplicity was key, but now that they have access to more technology with updated graphics, 3D models and online capabilities, the foundations of the appeal are lost. Pokemon, as it's original concept can still exist today in the form of wearable technology and smartphone apps. Pokemon encounters could be done based on steps from a pedometer or something.
