Not really, they are boring. I much prefer randomizing 6 NatDex numbers and using those mons only in a full dex romhack.

i did exactly one monotype run (poison in platinum) and let me tell you, it was boring as hell.
there's no thought that goes into team composition, you just load up on whatever's actually available.

Yea, it’s usually a lot of fun cause it lets me use Pokemon I never Used since there are better options of the type and I rarely double up. Like between torterra, Garchomp, and Gastrodon, I pretty much never get a chance to use Hippowdon in gen 4, but I did in my recent ground monotype run

I did a Rock/Ground (because they're basically the same) Omega Ruby and a Flying LGP but didn't finish either run.

Agreed. Did a mono-poison in Soul Silver when it first came out and it was tedious at best.

it varies from game to game though right? i could see a poison mono being fun in sun/moon and beyond, salazzle and toxapex making a fun core

those are some nice mons. sandstream hippo + sand veil garchomp must have been a great combo

here's where i'm trying to end up in sword, although it sucks mimikyu isn't available until after beating the champion

Haven't done one yet and I'm don't see myself doing one in the near future. I would probably do a Mono Dark in Gen 7 though. You have cool options and access to them from the very beginning.

I've done several runs and in my experience how fun a run is depends on the type and game you choose. Some examples:
>Usually, the newer the game, the more options you will have for team building. At the very least, make sure you can get 5 different Pokémon in a run. Because of this,Dragon and Ice runs are not worth trying except in gen VII onwards
>Poison runs tend to be boring at early game because poison pokémon start off underpowered and have to rely on poison damage
>Water is EZ mode
>Fire looks cool but is actually one of the more limiting types. Same as Electric
>Grass is hard as fuck in USUM even with help of the grass starters you get through Island Scan, requiring actual strategy in almost every major fight.

In my runs I also found the Pokémon Clover restrictions to be the perfect sweet spot in difficulty. These are:

>No overleveling past the gym leader's level (or trying not to at least)
>No more than 4 items allowed in battle
>No revives allowed in battle

There's a whole bunch of choice but they can feel a little samey at times
I'd still say it's one of the more fun types though

I do, until the game gets boring. it tends to happen between gyms 6-8, depending on which game it is. Usually around the time when surfing becomes relevant or the plot starts to bog down the gym challenge.

SWSH was fine. I dislike the Exp. Share but it does let you train more than 6 Pokémon at once without lagging behind in levels, which makes the challenge more engaging and actually prevents you from being overleveled.

Pic related: the team I beat Leon with, which was, unsurprisingly, the only real hard fight in the game

Played through AS with a mono-grass team and Shield on an omni-Bug run (caught every bug as soon as it was available and rotated everything out to keep all mons the same level). The former wasn't really a challenge but the designs were mostly good, the latter was very interesting.

light clay + dual screens
draining kiss for darkies
cursed body with ability patch (thanks pokegen.com for the surprised trade lvl 100 regidrago)

I keep trying to do them in Gen 8, but I get bored somewhere between Gym 7 and the end of the game.

Kinda just wish we had a game where you actually train to become or are a gym leader. I'd settle on a fan game.

Second playthrough is always a mono-grass run for me. I’ve done Leaf Green, Heart Gold, Emerald, Platinum, White, Y and Moon so far.

Most fun run was Platinum, though Cynthia being considerably easier than two of her elite 4 members made for a bit of an eh finish. Most difficult run was Heart Gold for sure - gave me greater appreciation for screens in an ingame run though.
