Gold and Silver are the best
Emerald Battle Frontier + Gamecube link was kino
DP was ok, but you needed to hack in the tickets and flute.
BW gameplay was terrible. Had good music and good endgame.

Shit slow ass engine. Surf and health bar takes years to get shit done.
Team composition for trainers sucked ass and were a mess.

Even with exp share turned off its still the easiest mainline game.
Characters are bland and boring.
Champion is uncharacteristic.
Villain team is literally retarded.

Chose one. And the reason why you think it seemed longer is because the route drag out.
At least Alola tried to do something new with trials even if it didn't go so well it brought in much more of a challenge than the lazy attempt of gym fight they put in XY. Not to mention better story. If not for the linearity and constant handholding SM would be pretty solid.

Emerald gave us battle frontier + revamped story and better team composition.
Pt gave us Battle Frontier and revamped teams and story plus fun postgame.
Bw2 literally gave us a whole new story and an advancement in the timeline. Tons of post game content with medals facilities etc.

USM still has trainer where mons only have 3 moves slots and ruined the story plus don't get me started on the ducking parallel world which was only an empty corridor. At least the Girantina world had some puzzle and distortion going on. Post game with gay rocket that Nobody asked for. Fuck

3 Pokemon per leader is simply a design philosophy that both Gen 5 and 6 share, yet it's irrelevant to the discussion and you decided to bring it up anyway.

Just like you can prove games meet a certain set standard by using evidence from the games themselves.

If you set a standard of "the game doesn't have bugs that interfere with gameplay" as a "good" game, then you can objectively prove Sonic 06 is a bad game.

Linearity and handholding is a convenient scapegoat and the only thing hiding Gen 7 from being viewed as the desolate and content-deprived cashgrabs they really are. Trials themselves are literally just reskinned gyms from the last minute and they decided to go with them so late that they couldn't even make any unique assets for them.
Don't get me wrong, totems are great and better than any boss from Gen 6 except maybe Wally. But that doesn't make Gen 7 suddenly good when it has every other aspect of the game sticking out as inferior to Gen 5 and 6 content-wise.

Gen5 having 3 mons isn't as bad for one because Gen5 doesn't have exp share and even with it off in Gen6 most team compositions are worse than the ones in Gen5. Plus you are thrown in a non familiar environment with an exclusive Univa dex opposed to Kalos giving you the freedom to chose between Pokemon you are familiar with.

Then you have the fact that in Gen6 you get Kanto starters plus free mega Lucario and in Oras you get funking Mega Latios/as thrown to you. You literally have to small brain to get some form of enjoyment out of it.
Then no customisation options and Megas not being interchangeable between XY and Oras for cash grab purposes. Gen6 was rubbishhhhh

Not really. With things like the Earth one, we can decompose it, abstract it and eventually we'll have something validated by math, which is objective.
With your example, the implication is that a game with bugs is a bad thing. How can you prove this? Some people may like buggy games and disagree with you, thus not objective.

Was so embarrassing it got retconed and Mega's got shafted out of existence.
Gen6 characters were so forgettable and Az came out of nowhere and returned a little at the end for a boring ass match up. Plus the post game episode was just a chore.
