This is a good one. Making exploring actually fun, but not forced. Reward the player for choosing to do stuff they don't have to, but let them avoid it as well.

No IVs, Natures, and EVs.
Battles, catching, and training are a lot more fun and worry-free in singleplayer without this kind of shit.
It's not multiplayer/competitive, so what little added depth these mechanics provide are not needed. The battles can be made balanced and engaging/challenging with the Pokemon, their levels, and their movepools alone.

Seconding this. Also, if you can add some type of super boss on one of them, that could be fun.
Another thing I'd suggest would be adding a bunch of hidden items, it just feels nice to find one after searching in places that look off, at a dead end of a route, etc
