It's especially visible in subtle environmental themes - Kanto is highly industrialized, urbanized and kinda corrupted region basically run by Team Rocket and their legendaries either being pushed into being forgotten or directly involved with the corruption and industrialization.
Johto on the other hand is natural, humble and very traditional, seemingly resisting both technological and criminal advances and with their legendaries being strong part of culture and beliefs.
Kanto and Johto are damn cool when you look at them like that. No other two regions are so connected yet so different, almost like mirror reflections.
