I think they specifically mean the Emerald chapters, not all of Hoenn. It wasn't bad but the protagonist is definitely the worst.

The real problem is it follows the LGFR cliffhanger, the more popular and shipper extronaire pairing Ruby/Sapphire are side characters, and that Emerald looks weird and barely has a team beyond Sceptile since they're all out of nowhere last minute captures

It’s headcanon. The manga hasn’t really done anything to outright confirm it. Maybe whenever they have the Pokédex holders gather again, but for now, it’s just theory

I liked the cast of the Gen 4 stuff but I couldn’t jive with gens 5, 6, or 7. Is it wrong if me to just want the manga to just follow the plot of the games but a bit expanded and actually focus on side characters from the game. Or do more with them. Gen 6 was god awful because of this.
