So, what would the rest of 2022 have, since PLA will be released in January? Would it be Legends DLC, Let’s Go Johto, or Gen 9 even?

Given they ensured Legends got spat out before Pokémon day and the main team JUST works on new Gen pairings in three year blocks, Gen IX. Anyone claiming otherwise hasn't looked at how the devs treat their kiddy IP or the audience they traditionally seek.

It's gonna be gen 9 I know it. BDSP were oursourced and Legends doesn't seem as big as it may seem. They need a real mainline game for the competitve crowd and merchandising. Sinnoh will not carry them for a year

It's going to be Sword and Shield 2. Gen 9 will be saved for whenever the Switch's full successor is released. SwSh 2 is an acceptably "big" main series game that also isn't so big that it would detract too much attention from Legends' release earlier in the year.

Sword and Shield 2 will be set in a distant future of Galar where many things have changed about the region, Hop is the regional Professor and you have to defeat your old player character to become Champion.

Exactly. Which is why SwSh 2 is the most logical option. Game Freak have basically maxed out the capability of what they can do with the Switch so making Gen 9 for it has potential to be disappointing for those expecting a massive leap in quality. Instead, they will make SwSh 2 with a new story and altered region, plus ironing out the problems that people complained about (Restoring the full dex, improving graphics slightly, etc).

Didn't they say they won't do 3rd versions anymore and do DLC instead? They even showed BW2 in the picture during the January 2020 Presents as "expansions".

SwSh 2 wouldn't be a 3rd version but a sequel. They might not actually call it SwSh 2 but instead give it new names maybe based on a new legendary pair (since canonically Zacian and Zamazenta have already been dealt with and caught), but it will basically be SwSh 2.

I believe it, Legends Arceus to Gen 9 is basically going to be the same as Let’s Go to Gen 9
Which basically means Gamefreak still hasn’t learned and Joe Merrick will still defend them on their marriage day

Right, but 3rd versions are basically the same region (same era), as their previous games. In the presents, they one of their examples were BW2. From now on, it's going to be DLC

At the end of 2022 I believe we will have gen 9 or some kind of return to Johto although since we already have a return to region in the form of two games AND it would fit way to nicely with past releases of DP-> HGSS. So I would say it's 84% of gen 9, 10% chance of a Johto return game, and a 5% chance of nothing
