When it comes to a market, you need some type of objective analysis.
People who own their cards are inherently biased when it comes to how good the condition is, or what their true value is. That actually goes for anything. You will see that across the board...people have a mistaken perception of how much what they own is worth.
The idea of grading is it puts everything on a level playing field. If your card is fucked up it will be graded as fucked up, and everyone will know it's a 2 or 3 as opposed to the 7 you would claim otherwise if it were never graded.
Imagine actually trusting people to fairly evaluate their own cards they are selling.
