>>47701546>Mega EvolutionUnfortunately, it’s the worst one from a mechanical standpoint because of poor distribution, 1 per team limit, and wasting the item slot. However, I still like it the best because fuck you it's cool and feels the most personal/special of all the gimmicks. The lore is anime as fuck, but it still generates the most hype to this day for a good reason.
The lucky couple of Pokemon with access to these forms receive significant changes to their gameplay in terms of typing, stats, and abilities. This is unfortunately offset by the fact that there isn't much actual strategy to it aside from some niche mind games, and if you use any Mega outside of the top tier meta 'mons in competitive you are screwing yourself over via opportunity cost. The actual designs themselves are hit or miss, but are mostly serviceable overall.
>Z-movesDefinitely a step up in terms of availability, but it's probably my least favorite gimmick of the three. It feels extremely generic aside from some interesting quirks with Z-status moves, still has a limited distribution of special snowflake Z-moves, still limited to 1 per battle, still wastes an item slot, and the poses are too goofy for my tastes.
>DynamaxAs a mechanic it's good because everyone can use it, it doesn't require an item, Max moves have more flexibility & utility than Z-moves, and there's actual strategy and counterplay involved with the timing. The only downsides are that the concept itself is stupid, the Gigantamax forms and some G-Max moves are still limited i distribution like previous gimmick examples, and keeping track of all the chaotic and frankly OP effects can be tiresome. Also there's absolutely no way it's sticking around.
