I never use overlapping types of Pokemon.
I only use Poke, Great, Ultra and Premier Balls, aside from stuff like the safari zones and Pal Park where you're forced to use others.
I save the Master Ball with 0 intent to ever use it, even on a shiny.
I save the Rare Candies with the intent of using them to get a Pokemon to level 100, but rarely ever end up doing so.
I'm currently trying to go through each game up to gen 6, finishing each national dex, trainer card etc. (basically trying to 100% it) and making a living dex of every final evolution with as little outside influence (eg. trading, Pokewalker, events) as possible. I probably won't ever finish this, and if I do it'll be years away since I have other shit to play.
I try and keep in-game trade or gift Pokemon as untouched as possible, to the extent that if it's the only way to obtain that Pokemon without trading/gimmicks and I need to evolve it, I'll clone it so I can keep one pristine.
For saves where I try to 100% the game, I don't use Pokemon that I've already used on other 100% saves. I had to plan my teams for each 100% save ahead of time as a result.
