>>47706118I mean, that was the accusation/debate around the move off the board, but as somebody who was both an anon in the threads and in the skype chats at the time, that's not really what happened.
Even back when the project was entirely /vp/ centric, while you had hundreds of anons giving input and advice, actual map design, playtesting, sprites, etc were done by much smaller group of people, almost all of whom eventually joined the skype. By the time splitting off from /vp/ actually happened, there were very few people who weren't already in the skype who were in the threads that actually made useful content, which was particularly a concern given that, again, at this stage pre production was over and development was less submititng ideas and voting on designs and more actual dev work.
Were there cons to moving off the board? Yeah, to an extent: the project started here and to this day I would argue (again, this is me speaking, not the whole team) we have a duty to keep /vp/ involved and informed in some capacity, and as
>>47706172 mentions we also lose visibility and the chance for outside input or potential other devs to hop on as a result. But there were benefits, too, it unshackled a lot of things.
The point being, though, it wasn't an unrelated group of people taking shit, it was the people who did most of the work deciding that toc ontinue working it would be more productive to not have to run everything through threads that were increasingly barren and shitposting heavy since the average anon didn't have much to contribute anymore.
