If china can make Pokémon games now then why can't the US? The US has thousands and thousands of game studios more talented than Game Freak.

There hasn't been a single good AAA american game in the past 5+ years. China has surpassed them with Genshin Impact alone.

The US has some very good indie studios with lots of talent behind them. You can never rely on western AAA devs, I wasn't talking about them.

Plus, Tencent is also the distribution partner for the Switch itself in China, where it's called the "Tencent Nintendo Switch", so in this case having their game boosts the profile of the console itself in a huge market that is difficult to crack

Pokemon has some sort of x factor, or a combination of factors, which makes it successful. It's probably something subtle that wouldn't jump out at you immediately. It's not enough to just make a game where you catch and battle monsters, you would have to find out the x factor. I've seen people argue about what it is but nobody seems to agree.

We found out the X-factor, one of the facts was that you could bring your best friend from those games into the next games. The initial appeal came from the fact it was the first RPG like that, and then bringing your friends along for your entire 19 year career was what kept most of the more hardcore people along.

The X factor is trading. None of the other creature collectors encourage trading because the monsters are disposable after that entry's release cycle concludes. Temtem could've done this being an MMO but instead it focused too much on how many trannies they could get into the game.
