This board shits on Reborn way too much because of 'trannies' (ignoring there are no actual trannies in Reborn yet there is a tranny in Insurgence) that it really does a disservice to shitting on Insurgence's writing. Say what you like about how stupid edgy or needlessly dramatic or endlessly convoluted Reborn/Rejuvenation are, at least they are entertaining and the characters, shitty as they are, have their own personalities and development.
Insurgence isn't. It's a boring game full of flat characters who don't really ever do anything, but it's writing has this really noticeable undercurrent of smugness about it where you can tell they feel really smart about being 'meta' or 'above the main games'. Like the kid who thinks he's cool for thinking that Magcargo would blow up the Earth (in fact I'm pretty sure an NPC says this in the game). Just the fact he brings in fucking anime characters and le heckin Cynthia to show how badass and strong the main villain of the game is should say enough.
