I remember some bootleg plug and play with Pikachu in it very early on but can't for the life of me recall the name. Otherwise Pokemon Stadium was the first official game I played.

Pokemon Red, some kid left it at the after school program my sister worked at and she let me play it. deleted the save but I caught the kid an Abra,sorry Tony. Afterwords I got my own copy for my birthday.

The early 2000s when we were little was a chaotic mess. I got a copy of GTA 3 that COULDN'T save, so I have to start over every time I play. Never got past the first island.

I got my copy of GTA 3 from the son of my mom's acquaintance, who was in his mid 20s
It wasn't cracked properly, that's why it can't save.

Pokemon wasn't the only thing hacked back then. When I got my PS2, my father took it to a gaming center shop and they put like 100 games on a harddrive, so I don't have to buy legit CDs

FRLG is literally worse than SwSh. It's just soulless Kanto with shitty Gen 3 mechanics and aesthetics, and the awful GBA soundfont.

I didn't play or care about SwSh. I love the gen 3 mechanics and aesthetics. GBA has the worst sound but it doesn't get in the way of my enjoyment. Still love FRLG and gen 3 better than anything else. It's the most soulful for me.

Kinda salty I didn't start with gen 1. Not cause I feel gen 4 isn't good, its excellent even and I cherish my memories playing it, but there were so many features introduced with each new gen back then that I simply didn't notice or appreciate as a kid that it makes me wish I started with gen 1 and worked my way up so I could've better appreciated all the games going forward. Like imagining playing GSC after only having ever played RB sound like a mind-blowing experience I'm disappointed I missed out

I started with XY. I was but a year old dude.
First time I discovered Pokemon.
All these new monsters felt so nice and overwhelming. Every new form felt so cool to me.

However I think the best experience I had was with BW and SWSH.

This. I started with XY but in all honesty I can see how it's the worst game in the series.
By far, the best ones are USUM, SWSH, and BW since they all are pretty similar in terms of design.

I don't hate the younger crowd. I pity them. I am a gen one kid but I still acknowledge the jank. Despite all that I still feel gen IV was the strongest gen thats to the billion decent spinoffs and plat/HGSS.

I was 4 but could read "ok" so my mom bought it for my 7 year old brother and me. He was disinterested by and large so it became mine. I learned to read for pokemon

What are the chances of them releasing the older games on Switch's eshop? I'd love to play FireRed on Switch and I doubt they'd release new versions of the first three regions again anytime soon.
