Respect means treating these creatures the way they want to be treated by taking into account what they want. In a lot of cases many of them are happy with their lot in life and are happy working as companions to humans (For battling, contest, pets, guards, etc.), others not so much, and to those others they are free to make their own choices as to what to do with their lives.
