I’ve noticed some kind of connection between coming from sheltered overly religious backgrounds and anime obsession (not to mention waifuism and pedophilia)
It’s like their lack of stimulating relationships and socialization caused them to latch onto the one interesting thing in their lives at the time. anime/vidya becomes the scope of reality, and since they often don’t have the social skills to break out of their shell when school begins, they don’t always catch up and end up with only Japanese media for reference when dealing with people
They often end up sticking to the stuff they found as a kid and not even moving onto mature media.
