Mega Doom is unironically good, it hits like a fucking nuke with the sun up. It's a common sight on sun teams in ND these days. Hell, it's even OU viable in Gen 6, which is fairly impressive considering some of it's competition.

No, but it helps it with a lot of it's problems. It's outclassed by other TR attackers, like Mega Camerupt (woe betide the person who underestimates how hard the thing hits). TG Amphy would either be forced to waste a precious TR turn trying to set up and praying it isn't killed or get fucking liquidated if it tried to set up outside of that.
Megas had (and still have) potential. If you were willing to experiment outside "the meta (tm)" you were able to find that a lot of them were unironically good and could even hold their own with the meta ones. It's just that people only ever gravitate to what the top players are using. But that's less a criticism of Megas and more a criticism of comp Mons as a whole.
