In the case of paired Legendaries nowadays, they always have a male/female dynamic. If the girly-looking horse is paired with a masculine one, they're not pulling a bait'n'switch - the core of the studio's workforce were all born in the 60's and 70's when homosexuality was less accepted than it is currently and they're going to have the biases and mindset of their upbringing.
