If I recall correctly, Harvey Weinstein also helped out with Studio Ghibli movies for the West or at least was also thanked. I could be wrong but the short of it was that anything that passed through the film industry was likely touched by Weinstein for a long time so one instance of this happening for a Pokemon movie is not in the least bit shocking, offensive, thread-worthy, etc.

Yes, Harvey Weinstein was behind Miramax, which owned the distributions of the some of those Pokemon movies in the West. Same reason why TPC cannot rerelease them.

Image is a big deal in jap communities, if for some reason you end up a Japanese celebrity in a brand half as famous as Pokemon, you better stay scandal free unless that brand is known for being edgy, lest you get the boot. Way more strict than Burger celebs, if nothing else.

No because Pikachu and Pichu still gets re-released in the west. Movies 4-8 have yet to see a big re-release especially outside of America in English speaking countries because of Miramax
