Personally, I think it's creative as it naturally progresses "blocky, polygonal duck" to "smoothed out, round duck" rather nicely, but I could understand why someone wouldn't like it.

It makes sense but it becomes less interesting as it evolves. The final form shouldn't be the most boring in the line, that's why Porygon-Z is designed the way it is.

The premise of Porygon is a virtual creature designed for space exploration, so Porygon3 should look futuristic and spaceworthy, not necessarily just like my mom's duck

Porygon was made to explore space, not for the regular market. It already achieved that.
There could be another mon made by code, but at that point it wouldn't be "budget Porygon" it'd be just another virtualmon.

Regular Porygon is angular because of the digital landscape of the time. Porygon 2 becomes smooth and curved to reflect design choices when it came out. Following that logic, you'd expect P3 to pick up a Flying typing, as it would move to the cloud.

The fuck you mean? Porygon is already in the "cloud", if it wants to be. The "cloud" is literally just a series of servers used for processing, and that's it.

Or an alternative, open source community developed Porygon that allows customization in terms of abilities and typing.
