charizard, upon evolution from charmeleon, gains:
-a second horn, giving it a proper pair atop its head that most people will recognize as a staple of classical european dragon design
-significantly smaller arms to the point where they're t-rex tier, becoming a distinctly unique feature of its design since hardly any other dragons have limbs that puny and the arms are so small in contrast to every other pair of limbs
-massive wings that also have horns on them, adding a small flair to an otherwise bland addition
-a potbelly, once again another subversion of typical dragon design (in that most dragons are portrayed as fit and muscular at all times, whereas this dragon is noticeably chubbier and seemingly less automatically fit, making for good trope subversion and giving the design even more of a noticeably unique flair)
-a much more squared, reptilian head, along with smaller pupils and visible fangs, making for a less chibi and far more overall intimidating look
-a change in color palette to a much less intense color, soft orange, that grounds the design in its distant charmander roots and signals the end of a rebellious, hotheaded phase clearly shown off in its prevolution
whereas your piece of shit serpent gains
-a slightly meaner look, I guess to imply that it's big and scary now
-more ice on its body because it's a bigger and scarier version of that prevolution and the prevolution before that
-arms that are equally as puny as charizard's, but that aren't as striking since the back flippers it retains are also very small
-larger spikes on its back and a proper tail because it's BIG AND SCARY NOW
what meaningful character progression is to be grasped from this shit, what identifiably unique aspect of this design am I supposed to remember when thinking back on it? I made a silhouette comparison and excluding posing I can't fucking tell these things apart. tell me, what am I missing?
