Game Freak rarely gives boosts to base stats, and NEVER to starters. If they did Charizard would have gotten 255 in every stat by now.
People would use them their megas if they were good.
Alternate forms are the one of the only ways for them to be improved. Of course Game Freak can just grow some common sense and give them movepools like literally every other set of starters. Feraligatr is at least somewhat usable in lower teirs but other two are completely unable.
