Generation 3 is OBJECTIVELY BEST Pokemon generation. It's peak of Gamefreak creativity.
Nature, abilities, one of the best designed pokemon in the series: from good looking like Absol, Aggron or Armaldo to weird and creative like Shedinja or Spinda. Regi trio - best legendaries in terms of mystery and encounter. Battle Frontier - one of the best post-game in the series. Mirage Island and many many more.

This is an entirely reasonable opinion. My only exception would be SWSH, as I believe that to be the one game so far that falls below par in most ways overall.

But even it has a couple of good things no other game has done.

Getting off topic though - yeah Hoenn WOOOOOOO Regis are seriously fucking dope and I wish we had more puzzles like theirs

They've become gimmicky by years. I don't mind mini-games or such in the main series, but not Pokemon-related gimmick. Keep it simple, stupid.

gen 3 might be my top favorite.
definitely some of the most wonderfully designed mons in the entire series, and this may be the biggest selling point of the game for me.
you can have super diverse teams every playthrough and be successful. earlier last year i did a "stage 1 mons only" run and the elite four was brutally difficult. very exciting.
the graphic updates were nice and fresh, the environmental differences are super comfy, natures were a great addition, especially running 5 zigzagoons through most early game, the two rival organizations were interesting but pretty bland in the end - but having an "ally" and enemy per version was interesting

however, removing day night was disappointing, and it may have likely had to do with GBA hardware and screen capability over laziness or change in direction, also the addition of secret bases was worthless and pointless, imo.
the music was meh, too many watermons, the text is awful, the bikes are fun and the aerobike puzzle is somewhat difficult but can be frustrating.
the inclusion of gen 1 shitmons was annoying, i would've loved some more gen2 goodmons
in conclusion i like gen 3 a lot but improvements were still to come.

gen 3 is similar to gen 8

and similar to 3 (and 5), 8 was hated at first but in a few years, nostalgiatards will praise it and the overall reception of it will improve

You can obtain 100% of the pokemon in Emerald, unlike swsh and that's even counting the DLC. 8 will always be remembered as the lowest point of the franchise unless they manage to go even lower

That would be Johto. RSE are still the best selling GBA games, but the popularity was already dwindling and Yugioh is to blame

You're absolutely right, there should be a tool that allows you to transfer all pokemon from previous games forward like gens 4-7, but for gen 3 that was impossible and gen 8 just flat out refuses to use the technology available.

Pretty jarring to go from such an organic layout to the roadblock ridden backtracking mess that was Sinnoh.

I prefer playing other gens yet I can't escape the fact that I feel gen 3 is simply the most objectively polished and well crafted of all the games. its not only ambitious but manages to do all it wants without really showing any cracks, unlike some other games
