>>47759002You choose a starter and your friendly rival takes the weaker starter. The stronger starter is left alone. Your not-as-friendly rival has the same main, but its type changes to be the one with an advantage against your starter later on. Professor Kukui's dream is to establish Alola's own Pokémon League, so after you complete your island challenge (not quite Gyms, an unrelated thing), he invites you to his League where you challenge his assembled Elite Four (mostly characters you've already met or battled). After you win, he crowns you as Alola's first Champion, and thinks you need a commemoration match. He personally challenges you at the summit of the mountain where the League is located, and he has the fully evolved starter nobody else chose with the advantage to yours.
When you beat the Elite Four in rematches, you go to your throne and random Trainers you've met from your journey challenge you for the title of Champion in Title Defense matches.
