I agree. The gameplay is a drag, but because of the smaller cast, the characters are great and well written. Hope people who skipped it force themselves to play through it at least once

it is the first 3ds mystery dungeon series, so i guess they are still trying out how to program for the 3ds? so they downsize many thing but pick pokemon because pokemon will still sell compared to other mystery dungeon titles for a downsized game.
