Is anyone else mad so many bulbagarden users hated on the recent Dawn cameo because they had odd expectations?

Look at these posts:

They keep claiming the battle was rushed with Matori TR even though it was an XY-style battle or that Dawn didn't do much when her whole point was to influence Koharu and inspire her. We got great interactions, Dawn in a new dress and a contest appeal, and some fun scenes on the beach at the end. They also got the lore for Darkrai/Cresselia down correct this time around unlike the old DP episode, where they're supposed to be counterparts of each other and not enemies. The scene when everyone was falling asleep with Koharu/Dawn in the dream was great too.

I also think Dawn will appear again in the Fall so she'll probably use her other pokemon there or interact with Ash a bit more, for the few shortcomings the ep had.

Any Dawn fan should have loved that cameo, and the interactions she had with Koharu were among the best of the entire series. We also got an XY-style anime battle with the Matori matrix and well done lore with Darkrai/Cresselia.

I think the anime staff associate the Contests more with Dawn than May now, simply because the Contests were more differentiated from normal battles that gen. I think any contest related stuff will be relegated to Dawn from now on.

They didn’t foreshadow anything. The second Sinnoh special is going to deal with the lore of palkia and dialga, not Koharu and contests. Cynthia will likely be the main selling point there.

If Dawn doesn’t get one then Serena isn’t getting that either. Anyway, it is a moot point the staff doesn’t care about contests. They were just a gimmick to give May and Dawn something to do. But it wasn’t some major component of the series.

Ironically, Serena bonding with Koharu about not having a goal and inspiring her and showing her Sylveon probably would have fit more than Dawn. If Serena shows up they probably won't have her bond with Koharu for this reason, it would be too repetitive and the same thing

So what's the opinion on Dawn's Piplup around here? When DP was originally airing I remember a ton of hate for Piplup on bulbagarden/serebii back in the day with people finding it annoying or overbearing.

Personally I liked it although the writers did start making too many fillers about it as DP went on. I never found it annoying, and he was cute in the recent eps too.

Yeah, they basically made the series title into "Pocket Monsters" again which made it clear this series doesn't have to end when Gen 8 does. Assuming Pokemon Go doesn't die in popularity, they have no reason to get rid of Go. The world tournament stuff could even continue after or if Ash beats Leon since Gen 9 will have a new champion.

People on bulbagarden really stupidly believe this series has 1 1/2 years left and that the show is going to go back to the old forumula, or Go is leaving. Man will they be in for a rude awakening.

Actually I would like a Tournament arc where Emma does gets manipulate by Xerosic to participate as Essentia until Ash, Looker and Malva rescues her. Honestly I am more interested in Tournament arcs than some winter special about Legendary pokemon.

Speaking of which, how old is Emma? I was sure that she has to be 8 to 10 year old if she needs other children to look after and feed her so I was surprised when she turned out to be older. Maybe 12-13 year old orphan girl might be desperate enough need help from other children however I can't see a 16-18 year old girl relying on children even if she is an illiterate orphan.

One thing that bodes well for him is that he's a completely original character to the anime. He's not discardable on the grounds that he's 'tied to Galar' (he isn't) because like Ash, his design can be modified from generation to generation to incorporate design elements from each new region, although I really like his current fit.

Early Hoenn May was being honest. She didn't care for Pokemon so she chose Torchic because it was cuter than Treecko, and had bad experience with the Mudkip squirting her when saving Birch before.

Looking back I'm surprised when it evolved Combusken didn't have the usual disobedient arc that most mid-stage starters have, where it'd start to ignore May because of how she ignored it as a Torchic. But instead Combusken liked fighting so it didn't have a disobedient arc.

On serebii in 2005-2006 people used to nickname Combusken, "the kung-fu chicken" and that's how Gravy and the other old-school members described it at the time.

It was very popular when it aired, it's just that they improved elements of it in the following series so it doesn't stand out as much anymore. Usually the writers write each main girl into whatever anime trope they want where they're either too girly/demure/shy and don't move on from that, or too outgoing/tomboyish. May's like one of the few girls whose personality changed through the show and was neither too much a pushover or too arrogant either.
