It doesn't lack in content. it just doesn't have a diverse array of animations. funny enough a Modder who tried to "fix" issues with these games like the animations ended up admitting that doing this work is harder than expected and he could not deliver himself.
they removed then added back in Pokémon. there is over 600 available. with people believing there will be a 3rd DLC that will add the rest.
either way its a game that people like yourself will pick up used off ebay, play it, and completely change your stance. unfortunately all the time relevant stuff like VGC, and Raid dens will be a thing of the past. you snooze you lose its a great game.
