I don't know about that, pure fire is better than fire/flying simply for the fact that it's not 4x weak to rock. Charizard doesn't really have access to any of the strong Flying-type STABs, either. Strong Flying-type STABs have terrible distribution to begin with, mind you.

Here's a fun fact, Typhlosion is actually tiered higher than base Charizard in gen VII singles. The only reason it's not the case in gen VIII is because Typhlosion doesn't exist at all in gen VIII. It would probably still be tiered higher. Choice scarf Eruption can be a very powerful tool.

The higher ups at Game Freak didn’t want Typhlosion to overshadow Charizard so they made it useless. Similar thing happens with Meganium being made useless to not overshadow Venusaut, they don’t worship Blastiose to an unhealthy degree so they allowed Feraligatr to be good.

Made it useless by cutting it from the game, because if it had been in SWSH it would've proven to be better than any Charizard without its megas.

Charizard doesn't get Eruption, Typhlosion does

makes Typhlosion a good switch in to Fire-weak pokemon especially if your opponent is a retard who can't predict for shit

Typhlosion ranked equal or better with Charizard in every gen except 6 and 7 due to Megas (and without Megas, Charizard ranked worse)

That’s debatable. Game Freak went out of of there way to Give Chaizr pretty much perfect coverage with its special movepool, even then Weather Ball with Solar Power does the exact same out damage as Eruption without th crippling flaw of becoming usless after taking damage. And then there’s Max Airstream.

Oh and Hidden Power is gone forever, so unless Game Freak gives it a special movepool (Earth Power being an absolute requirement) then Typhlosion would be useless in PU thanks to Powercreep. Though considering Legends, it seems Game Freak doesn’t hate Typhlosion anymore so things are looking favorable for it.
